If the EXP 100 HD sounds like an over-sized carving ski, well, it is. Most of the skis in the All-Mountain West genre reside near the middle of a series of decidedly off-trail skis, whereas the EXP 100 HD sits at the top of an Experience family that’s comprised primarily of Frontside models. As befits the leader of the Experience clan, the 100 is the most powerful, with two sheets of Titanal under the hood, and the most demanding.

Rossi’s Experience 100 HD is an interesting amalgam of on-trail and off-trail elements. It has the gradual sidecut of an off-piste ski and surface area galore, so it’s well suited to tearing up crud. But the EXP 100 HD has the tip shape and baseline of a Frontside ski, with a sidecut that’s meant to maintain continuous contact right up into the tip, a rarity in a market obsessed with spatulate, tapered tips.

It’s not just a bigger version of the EXP 88 HD; it’s a different animal, and it requires a more talented skier to tame it.

The step up from the E88 to the E100 provides a perfect example of what Titanal brings to the design party. While it’s germane to observe that the Carbon Alloy Matrix introduced this past season on both skis closed the performance gap between them, the metal in the E100 is a game changer. The boost in torsional rigidity amplifies its bite on hard snow gives it the determination to hold a precise line in the highly imprecise world of chewed-up crud.

One of our anonymous citizen testers summed up the Experience 100 HD’s essential qualities succinctly: “Super solid, surprisingly quick, very confident everywhere.” For capable skiers who search for powder but all to often must settle for groomage, the E100 HD is a trustworthy everyday tool.
