The XT line got all new shells and liners just a year ago, so this collection of HM models built on RX W lasts didn’t get the Dual Core upgrade, at least not yet. The XT 110 LV is notable for being the rare narrow-lasted boot with a Hike Mode latch on the back. When in hike mode, the unlatched upper cuff allows for 43o range of motion, more than enough for sidecountry jaunts, and the metal locking mechanism provides a measure of reassurance that there will be no breakdowns off-piste.
If you plan to do a significant amount of hiking in the XT W, we advise you swap out the stock Max Grip sole for a WTR rockered sole. If you plan on skiing mostly in-bounds you may only use the hike mode getting from the parking lot to the lift, and that’s fine, too. The XT W models are all excellent alpine boots that happen to have a hike mode that can be used as little or as often as you like.
