The Head Super Joy, an avatar of the Lighter is Better trend in ski design, returns in 2020 with a slight tweak in its shape and composition. There’s Karuba in the core in lieu of Koroyd – still a super light substance, but substantial enough to be called “wood” – while Graphene, carbon in a one-atom thick matrix, manages the flex distribution. The Super Joy’s modestly tweaked shape is even more disposed to short turns than the original, with a sidecut radius of 12.2m in a 163cm, capable of generating the tightest turn shape in the Women’s Frontside genre.
Practically every ski in Christendom is claimed by its creator to possess amazing versatility, such as slalom skis that are superb off-trail and Big Mountain planks that can slice and dice like a Veg-O-Matic. The Super Joy disdains such hyperbolic drool. It’s a Frontside ski through and through, addicted to short turns to such a degree that it can’t wait for one turn to be over so it can dig into the next. If spooling an infinite string of tiny turns is your cup of tea, the Super Joy will be happy to show you how it’s done.
