The new DX85 W from Kästle is essentially last year’s LX85 W with the Titanal laminates removed in order to reach the more affordable price of $699. Any time one takes metal out of a ski, it will lose a large degree of torsional rigidity and a considerable dose of shock dampening, dropping the ski’s speed limit and edging power. The net effect switches the target skier from an advanced to expert woman to one of more modest skills.
For skiers who prioritize ease and comfort over technical performance, the DX85 W is a fine choice. Gals with loftier ambitions should consider the exquisite MX84 in a shorter length.
