The Supernatural 92 gets its unapologetically playful personality from a cambered baseline that gives its mostly glass structure a spring-like quality that pounces turn to turn. There’s just enough metal laid down the ski’s middle to give it more grip on hard snow without dulling its agility. This combination of shape and structure creates a ski that’s surprisingly comfortable whether driven with a feather-light touch or a lead foot.

[The Supernatural 92 did not change for 2018. The ratings and review here are reprised from last season.]

Most ski manufacturers wouldn’t regard “fun” as a technical term, but it’s a precise appellation for Line, as it fits both the personality of the brand and the attitude of the more carve-y of its all-mountain collections, the Supernatural series.

Line describes the 2017 version of the Supernatural 92 as “redesigned,” as opposed to “new,” but the tweaks it made in sidecut and stance location aren’t just window dressing (Line changes almost all their cosmetics yearly), but amount to an important upgrade in steering accuracy. The 2018 92 is more connected on groomed conditions, which makes it well suited to folks who realistically spend 75% of their time on manicured slopes but want to tap into the off-trail attitude of a rockered ski when the siren call of fresh snow proves irresistible.

Most advanced skiers keep their feet under them, within the boundaries of their shoulders, which limits the degree of edge angle their skis can achieve. Any Finesse ski has to perform within this range, responding promptly to mild doses of pressure rather than depending on massive shifts in lower body position to effect change.

Just because Line markets to the young – “Trix are for kids!” could be its motto if General Mills hadn’t thought of it first – doesn’t mean its skis won’t also perform for the 50-year old adolescent. The Supernatural 92’s facility for accurate steering from an upright stance makes it natural pick as a Silver Skier Selection.
