Sometimes simple solutions, well executed, yield surprisingly strong results. Fischer takes several measures to trim ounces off the My Pro MT 86, yet the overall impression is one of solidity and confident control. The ski is built on classic lines, with a vertically laminated all-wood core, fiberglass laminates that dictate flex distribution and rebound and ABS sidewalls for efficient energy transmission.
The weight-saving maneuvers deployed by Fischer begin with its unique Air Tec core that whittles away 25% of it in a pattern that maintains it structural integrity. Second, the sidewall is shortened so the top edge can be slanted, reducing the amount of ski exposed to the snow. Called Razorshape, the beveled top edges trim off a chunk of mass that doesn’t contribute to edge grip. And third, the My Pro MT 86 dispenses with Titanal laminates that would suppress its liveliness.
Kimberley from California Ski Company finds the My Pro MT 86 “Responsive but forgiving. Fun and easy to ski on the whole mountain. Light,” she adds putting its lightweight in its proper place, behind its performance properties. Clare from Peter Glenn describes it as “a very steady ski without being stiff. Great for the morning skiing, but when my legs were more tired in the afternoon, the front became slightly squirrelly in the mashed potatoes.” The petite but powerful Steph Humes from Jan’s “loved it,” noting that it’s hard to believe there’s no metal in there. Any turn shape you want to make. Great ski.”
And that’s coming from a woman who has tested, scored – and sold – hundreds of skis. For its ease, accuracy, lightweight design and economy – note the $599.99 MSRP – we recognize the Fischer My Pro MT 86 as a Silver Skier Selection.
