The buzz at Nordica is all about the Enforcer series, off-trail wonders that are reviewed elsewhere in these pages. The clamor over the Enforcers has shifted attention away from what has been a Nordica wheelhouse, its Frontside carvers. That’s a pity, because Nordica continues to make some of the finest carving tools on the hill. The GT 84 Ti’s most lovable trait is how natural it feels, as though it was custom made for you. At a moderate edge angle it produces a moderate, medium-radius turn. The daily activity this rhythm most closely resembles is walking. Right. Left. Right. Left. You get the idea. It feels that simple.

We wouldn’t have listed the GT 84 Ti among our Power Picks if it didn’t belong there, but it’s worth mentioning that we labeled it a Finesse ski when it debuted last year. It’s blessed with a Finesse ski’s accessibility and a Power ski’s penchant for speed. Just what a lot of people look for in a Frontside ski.

Contributing to its impression of amiability is a willingness to cool its jets and execute a few short, slow turns to demonstrate its open-mindedness. It delivers on the promise of a clean arc at every point on the speed dial but “Stop.” While its instinct is to carve, the GT 84 Ti will drift, stivot or slarve the moment you tell the edge to let go.

Lovers of bygone Fire Arrows will find the GT 84 Ti has the same V-8 engine, but with their rough, my-way-or-the-highway disposition properly medicated. It still responds to a high edge angle, it just doesn’t require one.

A couple of footnotes that shouldn’t disappear in the small type: 1) MSRP is $100 lower than last year, and 2) they look a lot better. Which shouldn’t matter, but of course it does.
