Head overhauled its Joy collection, eliminating the Great Joy and Wild Joy to clear the way for the Kore 99 W and Kore 93 W, respectively. All the remaining Joys – Total, Super, Pure and Easy – were run through the make-over machine. New molds were cut and new constructions conceived to refresh the core of Head’s women’s collection. Almost a decade has passed since Head made its Joy collection the first to ever use Graphene, the lightest, strongest material ever industrialized. Head has learned a lot about how to deploy Graphene to selectively distribute mass and flexibility along a ski’s length, knowledge applied to the new Total Joy.
Although the Total Joy belongs to the All-Mountain East genre by dint of its 85mm waist, it behaves more like a wider Frontside ski than a narrow all-mountain. Despite is featherweight mass, the Total Joy is a fairly stiff, torsionally rigid ride that’s better suited to an advanced skier who already has the hang of a carved turn. For 2020, the Total Joy is available both as a system ski, with its own integrated binding ($950) or flat ($750).
